My name is Navy Khuy. I came from Cambodia. I came to New Zealand in 2011.
My first job in New Zealand was working in a bakery on Botanical Road in Palmerston North, then I started running my own bakery, Olympic Bakery, in December 2012. I still work here.
It’s close to the Awapuni schools. It’s a good place to work. We’ve also got a nice oven and the new cabinets. I like this area because the customers are so friendly.
Now, I am the owner of Olympic Bakery and also a manager, a chef in the bakery. I start working at 5am in the morning to 5pm, making sandwiches, serving customers, cooking, baking cake and cleaning. I have to check all the stock every day to make an order.
On Sunday, the shop is not open but I still work a few hours to prepare something for tomorrow. After work, me and my husband go grocery shopping. After shopping, came back home – cooking for the family.
Navy is on our ‘English for Employees’ course in Palmerston North. For more about learning English for work.
