English through the lens of art

News

A recent summer course at English Language Partners Wellington enjoyed a creative four weeks with a focus on English through the lens of art!

Some of the exciting and inspirational activities their teacher Bridget Porter organised can be seen in this video. They included trips outside the classroom to look at Wellington’s amazing street art and installations such as the Wellington Writers Walk and the sculpture dotted around the central city. They also visited the gallery in the QT Museum Art Hotel which has an eclectic collection of art.

The learners enjoyed creating haiku poems, Sketch-noting  with Meg (see our story about it here) and the finale which was a painting session with artist and previous ELP Wellington administrator, Edwin Elicer Reverol. Edwin organised a group painting session on two canvases based on Rā the sun and Marama the moon. The colourful paintings represent the diversity of our class and New Zealand. They are now proudly displayed in our foyer as a reminder of the importance of art as a universal language.
