Celebrating a huge year of hard work and achievements
It was a beautiful sunny day for our Wellington centre’s 2019 end-of-year party. Partygoers also celebrated 45 years of helping former refugees and migrants in Wellington.
Thai dancers, including one former learner, gave a wonderful performance. Then people enjoyed an amazing Zan dance by Jun Yuan (Chinese Art Association member).
Wellington Chinese Youth Arts Group performed the ‘Spirit of Youth’ and a high-energy item called ‘Calories’ – a great way to burn calories before lunch!
The NZ Chinese Culture and Arts Association presented ‘Cheongsam’ a gentle dance originating in the 1920s.
The super-energetic and fun finale was by an African drumming and dance group called ‘Moringa.’
Then a delicious lunch was shared and an ENORMOUS cake was cut. (Kindly provided by Metro New World).
Everyone loved the raffle draws for nine festive gift baskets, and kids had a special time with clever face painting by ELP’s Edwin and Fleur and also enjoyed special guest Santa (Thanks Pedro!) with his sack of lollies.
ELP Wellington gives a huge thanks to all their ESOL home tutor volunteers and teachers who came with their learners and to the generous Wellington City Council volunteers, especially Mark Farrar who has helped for the last 10 years. They all make the party the special event it is!
