Following up classroom learning with Bunnings Porirua

Learner Stories

Our ESOL Intensive class, made the most of an offer by the fabulous Jackie, the Bunnings Porirua Activities Organiser, to carry out activities with Bunnings.

This small class is for adults of refugee and migrant background who are at pre-intermediate English language level. In class, the students have been learning the English language for gardening, which is something they are very keen on, and as a finale went along to Bunnings to make planter boxes.

This involved getting out of the classroom, speaking English to new people, practicing following instructions and also learning some new building and gardening vocabulary along the way.

Everyone had a great time and came away with a lovely new planter box for their windowsills, as seen in the photos. A huge shout out to Bunnings Porirua who generously provided all items required to make the planter boxes, and also provided potting mix and plants.
