ESOL Intensive – Learners share their treasures

ESOL Intensive

ESOL Intensive students from our Porirua centre, who are at a high beginner level, carried out an activity that included reading and writing exercises, and a presentation to follow.

Students read the book Making a New Life, which tells stories about people from different cultures coming to Aotearoa NZ and something that is precious to each of them.  This was used as the foundation upon which each student then wrote, edited, and typed their own story onto a laptop (for some this was first time computer use for writing).

Students then introduced themselves and presented their story to the Certificate in Social Services class at Te Wananga O Aotearoa, and followed this up with ‘speed conversation rounds’ with those students and a shared lunch.  Teacher, Andrea Buckland, states “it was wonderful seeing every students speak so confidently in front of such a big group – a first for most students.”
