Part-time English Language ESOL Literacy teaching position

South Auckland

English Language Partners is an award-winning education provider with NZQA category 1 endorsement. Our national organisation of 22 centres has provided English language and social support to adult refugees and migrants for over 40 years. We are a not-for-profit charitable trust and our community based programmes involve both paid staff and volunteers. The following part-time position is for an English for Employees Teacher in South Auckland.

The English for Employees (E4E) programme

The E4E programme is a programme designed to teach adult Non-English Speaking Background (NESB) learners, ESOL (English language and literacy) to help them increase their confidence, contribution and satisfaction in the workplace. To be eligible for the E4E programmes, learners need to be currently employed.  This means that lessons usually take place in the evenings.

Qualifications required to teach the English for Employees programme

Teachers need the following qualifications:

1. A tertiary qualification in TESOL (minimum level 5) such as CELTA, Cert TESOL, Cert TEAL, Dip SLT – preferably one which contains a practicum.

2. AND one of the following

A New Zealand teaching qualification (preferably primary teaching)

A literacy educator qualification such as NZCALE (Voc)

• Experience in teaching ESOL and/or adult literacy is also desirable

The job will suit a person who is self-motivated and who would enjoy the challenge of helping new New Zealanders to reach their full potential at work.

The ESOL Literacy programme

The ESOL Literacy programme is a programme designed to teach literacy in English to adult refugee and migrant learners who have little or no literacy in either English or in their first language

Hours for ESOL Literacy:

10 hours per week, 2.5 hours a day from 12.00pm to 2.30pm,   Monday to Thursday

Qualifications required to teach the ESOL Literacy Programme

Teachers need the following qualifications:

1. A tertiary qualification in TESOL (minimum level 5) such as CELTA, Cert TESOL, Cert TEAL, Dip SLT –  one which contains a practicum.

2. AND one of the following

A New Zealand teaching qualification (preferably primary teaching)

A literacy educator qualification such as NZCALE (Voc)

• Experience in teaching ESOL and/or adult literacy is also required

The following part-time positions are for an ESOL Literacy Teacher and an English Language Group(ELG) teacher in Palmerston North.

The ESOL Literacy programme

The ESOL Literacy programme is a programme designed to teach literacy in English to adult refugee and migrant learners who have little or no literacy in either English or in their first language.

Hours for ESOL Literacy:

10 hours a week from Monday to Thursday during the school terms.

The English Language Group programme

The ELG Programme provides ESOL tuition to groups of adult learners from a non-English speaking background in order to improve their ability to function in everyday life and improve their confidence.

Hours for ELG:

2 hours on Tuesday and Thursday for Term 1 and Term 2.

2 hours in the morning on Friday during the school terms.

English Language Partners Aoraki is currently looking for expressions of interest from ESOL trained and experienced tutors for future programmes.

We would like to hear from you if you are a trained ESOL teacher who

  • has a tertiary qualification in TESOL at level 5 or above (e.g. graduate certificate, Bachelor's degree, post-grad diploma such as CELTA, Cert TESOL, Cert TEAL, Dip SLT). NCALNE (VOC) is desirable
  • is experienced in ESOL teaching and learner-centred lesson planning (preferably in a New Zealand context) at varied levels
  • Is computer literate
  • can work independently
  • is proactive and self-reflective
  • can be guided by a curriculum while being creative, practical, and adaptable in teaching style and approach

The role involves the assessment of workplace language needs by visiting the work site and interviewing staff and managers and then planning, preparing and teaching English language and literacy sessions.

We would like to hear from you if you have:
A qualification in TESOL at level 5 or above (e.g. CELTA, Cert TESOL, Cert TEAL, Dip SLT, NCALNE, Bachelor's degree, Post-grad diploma or degree).

It is desirable to have any of the following:  
Experience in teaching ESOL to beginner learners
Ability to develop a curriculum to meet employee and workplace needs
Ability to teach a multi-level class
Literacy educator qualification (e.g. NCALNE)
NZ teaching qualification (preferably primary teaching)
