    ESOL Home Tutors marks International Volunteer Day with launch of resource to boost practical language skills for migrants to New Zealand.

    give it a go cover The organisation unveiled: ‘Give it a Go - DIY topics and worksheets for ESOL home tutors and learners.’

     Designed to be used by both tutors and learners, the workbook has a host of ideas for developing teaching sessions and activities around practical topics. Copies will be given to volunteers throughout the country. 

    Included are 28 topics related to everyday life in New Zealand. Topics such as dealing with bills, getting a drivers’ licence, finding a job, sending children to a school camp, shopping and making doctors’ appointments.

    “Providing people with practical skills to help them adapt to life in New Zealand is what ESOL Home Tutors is all about,” says Grace Bassett, Profile and Publicity Coordinator, ESOL Home Tutors. 

    Give it a Go incorporates ideas and input from volunteers and learners from all over New Zealand. So it will provide a very practical and useful resource for both existing and new tutors and learners.”
